The Netherlands - The World Christmas Circus returned to Amsterdam's Royal Theatre Carré for their 2016-17 season - for the first time with a new Robe moving light, which was chosen by the popular and successful event's long term lighting designer, Wim Dresens.

Wim has lit the Christmas Circus for the last 20 years, and has also been engaged in circus-specific training over the years which has enabled him to perfect the specialist techniques required to light horses - 37 featured in this year's show - aerialists, acrobats and other circus performers.

Halo and Sky-net, fall protection solutions for Total's ground support tower systems and outdoor roof grids, received the Best Debuting Rigging & Staging Product award from Live Design during LDI 2016.

USA - When ESTA learned it would be losing a long-term source of revenue, the association faced the loss of almost a third of its income in 2017. The immediate impact of this is to endanger the survival of ESTA's ANSI-accredited Technical Standards Program (TSP). The ramifications of this would be enormous to the entertainment technology industry. Upon hearing of the situation, Ford Sellers, senior product manager at Chauvet Lighting, commented, "The work that is done by the TSP is indispensable. It is central to our industry...In fact, it is what makes us an industry, instead of just a bunch of individual projects."

LOC Pay Systems supplied 200 festivals and venues across Europe in 2016 with its token-based payment system and will continue to operate from its head office in Lochem, Netherlands, retaining its 13 full time employees under the management of CEO Roland Wassink.

Intellitix has grown organically to date, aiming to provide cashless RFID environment to 500 events in 2017. The acquisition of LOC Pay Systems, which until 2015 was a division of LOC 7000, marks the first time Intellitix has expanded by acquisition.

UK - Located on The Cut near London's South Bank, the Young Vic is one of the capital's most exciting theatres, showcasing work and artists from across the globe. The venue recently decided to replace the house lights in their Main House space and approached White Light to oversee the installation.

Chris Harris, WL's installations business development manager, comments, "The Main House at the Young Vic is really impressive, spread across three floors with a capacity of up to 550. Presented by experienced sound and system engineer, Merlijn van Veen, the seminars are intended to remove the 'magic' surrounding sound systems. Fisher and David Bundy will receive a 2017 Academy Award for Technical Achievement, for advancing the state of wireless microphone technology in the design, development and engineering of the Lectrosonics Digital Hybrid Wireless System. Presented annually by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the Technical Achievement Academy Awards recognise contributions of significant value to the process of making motion pictures.

In giving the award, the Academy recognised the individuals who developed the Lectrosonics Digital Hybrid Wireless System for advancing "the state of wireless microphone technology by developing a method to digitally transmit full-range audio over a conventional analogue FM radio link, reducing transmitter size, and increasing power efficiency."

UK - Set up amid the stunning architecture of historic London Road Fire Station in Manchester, UK, the Winter Gathering spans several weeks on either side of Christmas. The decommissioned station fills an entire block and has a massive courtyard at its centre, which the Winter Gathering populates with an ice skating rink, live music, and hip concessions and vendors.

UK - Lighting and video rental company Colour Sound Experiment supplied lighting and LED screen to two recent high profile shows by singer songwriter Richard Ashcroft at Liverpool Arena and London's O2 working with designer Jonny Gaskell.

Colour Sound is a regular supplier choice for Jonny whose work this year has also included lighting and visual designs for tours with Rudimental and Tom Odell. "I always get a great service, good and often new kit and brilliant crew, and they are nice people to work with," he commented.

His working relationship with Richard Ashcroft dates back to the heyday of The Verve when the band - for which he was lead singer - were favourites on the 1990's alt. rock scene. UK - Following a year which featured a number one single and winning the Brits Critics' Choice Award, Rag'n'Bone Man has now established himself as one of the most exciting artists in the UK. As his popularity continues to soar, the soul singer has just finished a nationwide tour in which he visited venues across the country. With a strong reputation in concert touring, White Light provided the lighting equipment.

The lighting designer for the tour was Louisa Smurthwaite. She comments, "My role is to look after the visual aesthetics of the show.
