Russia - Funktion-One’s distributor for Russia, Edelweiss Audio, has completed the sound installation at Krasnodar Stadium. The project led to the loudspeaker manufacturer breaking new ground with a specially designed Evo enclosure.
Edelweiss Audio was initially invited to take part in a listening test alongside companies representing most of the pro audio manufacturers active in arena and stadium sound. This was the beginning of a detailed specification process. Having impressed the owners, Edelweiss and Funktion-One were shortlisted and invited back for a second round of listening tests.
“A number of factors, not least the geometry of the stands, meant that a horn-loaded solution would work best,” explains Edelweiss Audio’s technical director Andrei Kremenchug

Azerbaijan - The opening ceremony of the 4th Islamic Solidarity Games, produced by Catherine Ugwu’s Betty Productions, featured spectacular visuals throughout the show.
Responding to an initial brief to deliver projection across the back wall and floor of a stage covering half an athletics stadium, Creative Technology (CT) specified 78 Panasonic DZ21 projectors driven with VYV’s Photon Media Server system. While the original brief and specification regarding the projection area and projector count was a little smaller than the Rio Olympics ceremony that CT were involved in last year, many of the same challenges applied.
Following the first test set up, the projection surface was changed from a gauze material to a solid white fabric, the contrast in the content was increased and further 40 projectors were added to ensure that the quality and brightness of the overal

Belgium - One time professional actor Stan Van Samang made his musical breakthrough back in 2006 winning the music talent TV show, Steracteur Sterartiest (VRT). While the Belgian artist has recorded a string of successful albums since, it’s arguably his live performances – with intimate audience interaction – which have garnered him notoriety. Tasked with bringing the most out of these live performances on Stan’s recent tour of Belgium, LD Bart Rogge specified 16 Chauvet Professional Maverick MK 2 spot and 24 R2 Rogue wash fixtures to stunning effect.
As Stan Van Samang’s live shows are all about interaction between audience and artist, Rogge decided upon a visual interaction of his own, that between the Maverick MK 2 spot and 24 R2 Rogue wash fixtures.
“The Maverick and Rogue fixtures formed the basis of my lighting concept,” commented Rogge. “T

USA - Serving the greater Washington DC area since 1971, RCI Systems is a full-service event production house and systems integrator that has built its success on two “greats” - great people and great gear. In the house of worship community, that has often taken the form of partnering with Jonathan Lesane and SYXA Services, most recently on a pair of installs featuring L-Acoustics ARCS WiFo (Wide and Focus) systems at Spirit of Faith Christian Centre and Mount Pleasant Church and Ministries.
Lesane works with a large number of churches in the DC and Baltimore areas, but he’s not a “typical” systems integrator. His approach of providing rental systems, as well as arranging permanent installs and personnel to run both, is a reaction to the issues many churches face with volunteer audio staffs.
“I have had many discussions with worship leaders where I point ou

UK - Former England and Manchester United footballer Rio Ferdinand co-owns Rosso Restaurant and Bar in Manchester, UK, and has ensured that Rosso’s patrons are treated to a sophisticated, yet effortless, hip experience.

The Neuron staff designed and installed a Danley system using their patented Synergy Horn loudspeakers and a Tapped Horn subwoofer, which now brings the sonic experience at Rosso in line with its upscale menu, décor, and service.
“We have been the audio contractor for the restaurant since around 2012, when failure issues appeared in the system installed by the prior contractor,” explained Kyle Marriott, managing director at Neuron

UK - At this year’s ABTT, igus will be demonstrating its innovative linear slides and cable management systems that help theatre technicians manage cables and stage props more easily.
On the igus stand (Stand B30) there will be three main demonstrations; the first is the drylin W curved rail system. These rails offer an innovative way of mounting sound and lighting rigs, or displays and control panels – anything that needs to be adjusted regularly. As the aluminium rails can be modified by precision bending, the profile of the curve can be tailored to requirements.
The second highlight will be the e-spool cable management system, which enables users to guide many different cables in narrow spaces and allows them to save space thanks to its small footprint. The innovative e-spool is easy to install and flexible, providing no-break connections in any direction for tr

The latest release of the Relay software – version 1.1.0 – is available to download and offers venues the ability to add wireless RDM to their ColorSource Relay system. The Relay and ColorSource Transmitter have a 100m (328ft) range and require minimal setup and no programming.
“The ColorSource Relay system was already a ground-breaking tool, but n

UK - Curry and a beer as a social concept has much to recommend itself. Easy, fast, tasty, and satisfying; what could you possibly add that would make it better? Well, how about a couple of life size shark holograms? Liz Berry of Hologramica is gaining quite a reputation for juxtaposing reality with illusion. For Avolites’ founder director, Steve Warren the opportunity was irresistible.
“We do a couple of these a year in the demo room at our London HQ in Park Royal. The ‘Avolites and Robe Designers’ Curry Club’ is an open house for people working in video and lighting live events.
“Yes, people come to the curry night knowing it will have an element of product presentation, but we also make the effort to promote the evenings as a networking event; it’s more than just a sales pitch. Tim Meadowcroft, one of the LD’s who attended this one said to me before

The Netherlands - One of the most historic buildings in Goes, Netherlands, Slot Oostende is a former castle located in the old centre of the city. It opened to the public in April this year as a multipurpose venue, with a Yamaha Commercial Installation Solutions (CIS)-based audio system meaning its spaces can be used for many different purposes.
Some original parts of Slot Oostende survive, while others have recently been rebuilt following excavations in 2009. This mixture of ancient and modern architecture provides a pleasant atmosphere, which was ideal for a restaurant, meeting venue and brewery producing the venue’s own beer.
Slot Oostende officially opened to the public on 19 April this year, with a planned programme of varied entertainment, as well as meetings, presentations and speech events. To ensure every activity enjoyed high quality sound, Peter de Graaf o

Technical production specialist Stage Electrics has been involved with the NSDF since 1999. This was the first year that SLX - the company’s rebranded rental division - worked on the event under its new name.
“We are what you might call a ‘Yamaha console house’, with a wide range of CL and QL consoles in our rental inventory. In many ways, the NSDF sums up the practical reasons for that,” says SLX business development mana
