Canada - Numerous fixtures from PR Lighting were on duty when Mexican group Banda MS recently played the Citizens Business Bank Arena in Ontario over three nights.
In order to create maximum dynamics for this award-winning band, Heriberto Montalvo (Hammer) and his team, alongside First Born Productions, turned to Mega Systems, PR Lighting’s North American distributor, to provide inventory.
From PR Lighting, they deployed the popular new Phantom, rigging several of these fixtures on the truss - over the band and on the sides. Austria - Salzburger Festspiele has recently invested in a multi-surface dLive system for the performance of medieval play Jedermann, which has taken place every year since 1923 at the Domplatz (Cathedral Square) in Salzburg.
With almost 700 performances in just under a century, the play is a central element of the festival’s identity and takes place throughout the summer. This year, the organisers have acquired an Allen & Heath dLive mixing system through suppliers, ATEC Pro Audio, which was purchased especially for the performance and are planning to acquire further dLive systems for their six other locations.

South Africa - OppiKoppi music festival offers a lively mix of genres embracing rock, electronic, jazz, world and acoustic sounds.
Pretoria based rental company Stage Effects, run by Theo Papenfus, has been involved in OppoKoppi for several years. Papenfus first worked as a tech on the event, and since 1999 Stage Effects has been a supplier. This year they provided site-wide lighting and visuals for five production stages.
Production lighting for the main stage (James Phillips Stage) was designed by Erik de Bruin, who this year used Stage Effects’ new Robe MegaPointes.
He also used 12 x standard Pointes, plus some other fixtures including LED washes, LED battens and 4-cell blinders.

UK - The Chroma-Q Space Force LED fixture has expanded its applications from the illumination of large studio environments to also include more subtle performances on the stage, having recently provided atmospheric lighting for a classic opera production at the Arcola Theatre.
Written by Benjamin Britten and first performed in 1946, The Rape of Lucretia is the first of several operas to be performed at the Arcola Theatre’s Grimeborn Opera Festival. In its 11th year, the festival celebrates bold new versions of classic operas and new pieces from up-and-coming composers, musicians and companies.

UK - Broken Wings is a new musical that recently premiered in the West End at the Theatre Royal Haymarket. Based on Lebanese-born poet Kahlil Gibran’s autobiographical tale of the same name, the show is written by Nadim Naaman (The Phantom of the Opera) and composer Dana Al Fardan. USA - The Four: Battle for Stardom is a new US reality TV show and singing competition produced by ITV Entertainment and Armoza Formats, with the second season just completed following a successful premier on Fox at the start of the year.
Lighting designer Tom Sutherland of DX7 DESIGN produced a large scale immersive 360-degree lighting environment for this second season. It was a distinctive aesthetic shift from the look and feel of the first season, and this time around, he included Robe MegaPointes and Spiiders on the rig.
The show was recorded in Studio 14 of the CBS Studio Centre in LA and the lighting equipment was supplied by California based Felix Lighting.

World - Justin Timberlake launched his Man of the Woods tour with Claypaky Scenius Unico fixtures supporting the show as it travels the world.
Man of the Woods is Timberlake’s sixth headlining tour; it follows the release of his fifth studio album of the same name. The tour kicked off in Toronto and played dates in North America until the commencement of the European leg in July. More North American dates are scheduled from September through the tour’s conclusion in Denver next January.
The show presents Timberlake’s music in several ‘worlds’ themed around the origins of the songs. The in-the-round set is composed of multiple stages spanning the arena space.

Japan - Martin Audio Japan has been featuring the MLA loudspeaker array at Rock in Japan for eight years, and it has now become an essential item on the four principal stages.
For the 19th edition of the festival, which took place in Hitachinaka Seaside Park over two consecutive weekends in August, MLA was again seen on the largest Grass Stage, the second Lake Stage, Park Stage, and Sound of Forest.
From new, cutting edge performers to veterans, more than 200 artists appeared on these stages over the four days, enhancing the Japanese music scene, with tickets once again sold out in a matter of minutes.
“It was back in 2011 when we first introduced MLA on the Lake Stage,” reports Shuzo Fujii, president of MSI Japan. “This is now the eighth year that the system has been adopted, and its high degree of control has become essential for the festival.

USA - Electro-acoustics specialist Audio Precision (AP) has announced the passing of its co-founder and former president Bob Metzler, aged 84.
Metzler founded AP in 1984 alongside Dr Richard Cabot, Bruce Hofer and Robert Wright. He served as the organisation’s president until his retirement in 1999 and was the face of the company in its early days, taking up marketing and sales duties as well as travelling internationally to engage with customers.
His legacy includes authoring the Audio Measurement Handbook in 1993, which was widely read throughout the audio community and was used as a text in university-level courses. Metzler also wrote numerous magazine articles and application notes, edited AP’s newsletter, Audio.TST, and conducted seminars and
