Europe - Snow Patrol returned to the road after a seven-year break with their 2018 album Wildness. Audio provider Adlib used the Outline Newton multi-source processor at the front end of their systems.
The Newton is quickly becoming an Adlib standard for audio processing and this sold-out UK arena tour was no different.
Sam Proctor, senior system engineer at Adlib, optimised his workflow to put the Newton at the centre of the processing operation, handling all the delays and EQ for each zone of the PA, as well as being a front-end matrix mixer to get all consoles into the system.
He comments: “Using one dedicated device to replace what was previously several devices networked together has been so much easier to adapt to different scenarios. Day to day, we may require multiple additional feeds for house delays, VIP boxes or hearing loops, or additional

The K-EYEs were chosen for their quiet operation, notes Vasily Litvin, Lighting Director of the DOK

France - Paris celebrated the Eiffel Tower's 130th anniversary in May with a spectacular son et lumière atop the Iron Lady with 60 Elation Proteus Hybrid luminaires used in an extraordinary double helix design. The weatherproof Proteus moving heads played an integral part in the sound and light show and were supplied for the event by technical solutions provider Magnum, who has been involved the majority of Eiffel Tower events since 2004.
Magnum’s role on the project was to interact between the artistic ideas of set designer Bruno Seillier and the Eiffel Tower’s technical director. Programmed by Magnum’s Clément Lelevé, the custom light show portrayed a series of moments in history including Gustave Eiffel’s design and construction of the tower, special broadcasts France got to experience due to the tower’s height, the two World Wars, and other notable e

Plastic Free - Sir David Attenborough took to the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury to praise festivalgoers for using less plastic. The naturalist appeared shortly before Kylie Minogue's set, and previewed some of his new TV series Seven Worlds, One Planet, which is due to air on BBC One later this year. Thousands of people had gathered for his unscheduled appearance.
"Those extraordinary marvellous sounds you've just been listening to were the sounds of the creatures that live in the sea and the great oceans. You may have heard some of them in a series that went out two years ago called Blue Planet 2," he said.
"There was one sequence in Blue Planet 2 which everyone seems to remember. It was one in which we showed what plastic has done to the creatures that live in the ocean. They have an extraordinary effect. And now, this great festival has gone plastic-free. That

UK - AED’s SL18 Showlift was named Engineering Product of the Year’ at the annual ABTT Awards, which took place during the ABTT Theatre Show in June.
The DMX-controlled automated production lift offers theatre and live event lighting designers a new set of tools to add dynamics. It’s quiet, smooth and fast operation, and the fact that it can be controlled by a 2-channel DMX signal from a lighting desk, has been attracting attention since it was launched.
The ABTT Awards’ panel of judges praised the AED-SL18 as “a piece of engineering equipment with the lighting designer in mind. With a small lifting platform that can take the weight of a moving light and controlled from the same DMX system as the moving light, the Showlift allows all the programming to sit in one place.”
David Baker, commercial manager at AED UK, comments: “We’re thrilled that th

USA - Heavy metal rockers Lamb of God have been on four tours over the past year as support for thrash metal band Slayer’s long-running farewell tour, the latest leg in May beneath a rig of Elation lights. Lighting design was by Steve ‘Cowboy’ Stemac with lighting supply and support by Gemini.
Stemac started with Lamb of God in May 2018, as lighting director, inheriting a stage set-up designed by tour manager Brian Griffin. After earning the band’s, and Griffin’s, trust over the following legs of the tour, the designer began to evolve the show, a process that eventually led to fixture changes.
For the latest leg, a 16-date trek across, Stemac chose to reinforce the band’s signature sound and stage presence using Elation DARTZ 360 LED beam/spot fixtures and Elation ACL 360 Bars.
