Russia - Lighting designer Vladimir Lyubimov continues to use Astera Titan Tubes as a key lighting feature for concerts by Russian rock musician, singer and poet, Svetlana Surganova.
The most recent of these took place at Crocus City Hall in the Krasnogorsky District of Moscow, staged in the autumn - at the time this was during a brief period when concerts and large gatherings were allowed during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Surganova & Orchestra presented their In Contrast programme to a full live audience at the venue after the show was moved at short notice from the famous 1930 Club, also in Moscow, to the larger 7,300 capacity venue.

Germany - Rental company CGS Dry Hire has invested in a large number of Robe’s recently-launched Forte LED moving lights, delivered via Robe Germany. These are now available for dry hire at CGS.

Geyer, who founded CGS in 1999 whilst still a technology-obsessed teenager and a keen DJ, commented: “Investing in premium brands and solid technology has always been a CGS trademark. It has helped enable us to build the company’s reputation for excellence, and we see Forte as a smart option for rental stock that will help expand our market position both now and for years to come.”

UK - disguise has announced a major software release in early April. Cluster rendering will allow users to scale out their real-time content rendering without compromise, as their productions increase in size or complexity. disguise invited a select group of global partners to pressure test and implement the technology into their workflows in preparation for public release.
disguise’s cluster rendering will unlock the limitations of a virtual production studio or immersive installation by scaling out real-time content up to an unlimited capacity, says the company. This is achieved by spanning real-time content over more than one disguise server as each machine will render a fragment of the final content frame to increase the render power. Developed to support Unreal Engine’s nDisplay capabilities, the technology also removes the need to manually configure the nDisplay cl

USA - Christie has announced the launch of the new Christie Mirage SST-6P, a dual-head 18,000 lumen, 4K, 6-primary 3D RGB pure laser projection system that the company claims delivers twice the onscreen brightness of traditional colour-comb 30,000-lumen lamp-based 3D projection systems for bright, colourful, and detailed 3D images for venues including theme parks, attractions and giant screen dome theatres.
The 6-Primary (6P) 3D dual-projector system uses two sets of RGB laser primaries with slightly off-set wavelengths: one for the right eye, and one for the left. Reusable passive 3D glasses filter different wavelengths and direct the light to the correct eye, with no shuttering, for a natural and comfortable 3D visual experience. The result is a projection system that is 90% efficient at projecting light onto the screen, and white-screen compatible for blending the multi-p

USA - Back in July, Mike Cristella, owner of Live Wire Productions, and Bob Sallade, who owns Sound Track Production Services, based in Hammonton, NJ, pooled their resources and expertise in lighting and sound to create Wired Studios, a 30‘ x 20‘ space that would allow customers of both companies to reach people during the lockdown with livestreams.
“It became apparent to Bob and me and that the pandemic wasn’t going anywhere anytime soon, so we got together to create this space in our warehouse,” said Cristella. “The space isn’t the largest in the world, but we outfitted it with excellent sound and lighting gear as well as cameras so our customers could produce livestreams and video recordings that would reflect well on them.”
In terms of lighting, Wired Studios packs an intense punch with a high-output and versatile rig anchored by Chauvet Professiona

USA - When Glenn Polly, founder of VideoSonic Systems, Inc., an audio-visual integration company, was tasked with integrating a high-quality, low-cost microphone solution for use with Zoom rooms at a leading university in New York, he opted for MXL Microphones' AC-404s.
“Zoom engineers have dedicated countless hours to writing the original algorithm, enabling mics to behave as beam tracking mics,” says Polly. “Up to 12 MXL AC-404 mics can be installed in a Zoom room without the need for a DSP processor, which is a nice benefit. The latest version of the Zoom algorithm is even better, so naturally, the mics work even better.”
Near-end audio capture is the most difficult component of a Zoom call and can represent the largest chunk of the project’s budget. “To optimise the performance of the audio capture devices, it’s important that the room itself has acc

UK - The Institute of Sound, Communications and Visual Engineers (ISCVE) is re-scheduling its annual exhibition and seminar programme to March 2022, the ISCVEx committee has announced at its recent AGM and Members’ Day.
The new dates for ISCVEx2022 are 22-23 March 2022.
Helen Goddard, president of ISCVE, comments: “With the level of uncertainty surrounding the timescale of vaccinations combined with mixed confidence and appetite for attending events, we feel the pragmatic approach is to take ISCVEx off the calendar for 2021 and reschedule for March 2022. ISCVEx will mark its 20th anniversary in 2022 and will offer visitors an engaging schedule of events occurring ov

Glastonbury - Proposals have been submitted for a concert at the Glastonbury festival site this autumn. The news comes after it was announced in January that the festival had been cancelled for a second year in a row because of the coronavirus pandemic. But festival organiser Emily Eavis said in a post on Instagram that an application has been made to stage a concert at Worthy Farm in September instead.
She wrote: "For those asking for an update on our plans later this year, we have put an application in for a licence for a concert at the farm in September (around the time we'd usually do Pilton Party). Of course, we've no idea yet whether we'll able to do that, but we wanted to get the application in to be in with a chance. Unlikely we'll have any news for a couple of months - but will let you know right here when we do."
